Another great news for every Malaysian driver - it was announced that Touch n' Go will be removing its 10% surcharge policy in the future. This statement came from the man himself, Chong Chieng Jen, who is the Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, at a Parliament meeting. It will be applicable for parking facilities and dual payment systems.

During the meeting, Mr Chong said that the company (TnG) will end the surcharge rate for future contractors and renewal of contractors. For the current contractors, "the surcharge rate will end in stages" along with the cease of the surcharge rate based on the merchant discount rate. To add on, he also said that out of the 11,168 locations, only 2880 of them did not impose the 50 cent surcharge, as well as carparks that only supports TnG payment system.

Mr Chong further mentioned that the 50 cent surcharge was not imposed by TnG, but rather by the outlet operators in certain petrol stations, shopping outlets, ATM machines and sundry shops. This also includes carpark operators with dual parking systems where there was a contractual obligation.

The matter was heard today when Ayer Hitam's Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong was asking Chong about the surcharge issue, as it was a burden to many Malaysians. Stay tuned for more local tech news at TechNave.com.
