As everyone should know, President Trump's tariffs have caused a ruckus all over the world. But recently, he announced a 90-day pause and a "substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff" of 10% to countries that did not retaliate against the tariffs he imposed. That said, China is not getting the same treatment, as Trump raised the tariff rate again to 125%.
From the news source, it was confirmed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt that countries like Vietnam will be getting a 10% tariff rate drop. Vietnam is one of the countries that produce large amounts of US-bought goods. The list of other countries isn't specified, but it can be safe to assume Malaysia would get one too, as we did not retaliate with a higher tariff tax against the US.
On top of that, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick tweeted the new 90-day pause is about getting “negotiating leverage”, with rewards for countries that didn't retaliate. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who also sat with Trump and Lutnick, claimed that this reversal was the President's "plan all along".
Whether this is a bluff or not, having higher tariffs worldwide will only make the common folks suffer. We will have to wait and see how the new negotiations for the tariff will impact the tech industry.
