As many of you may know, TikTok has been asked to divest its US business to continue operations in the country. The platform was able to resume operations in January, but its next deadline of 5 April 2025 is looming fast. However, sources say a sale could happen soon.

According to Reuters, US President Donald Trump believes a deal with ByteDance could go through before the Saturday (5 April 2025) deadline. When asked, Trump said there are "a lot of potential buyers" and "tremendous interest" for TikTok. The US President also claimed he would like to see TikTok remain (in the US).

US President Trump is willing to extend the deadline if an agreement is not reached by 5 April 2025. He pointed out that China as a government would have a role in completing any deal, and that he could consider providing tariff reductions to see it done. Reuters also reports that ByteDance's existing non-Chinese shareholders, led by Susquehanna International Group and General Atlantic, are the current front-runners in the TikTok US bid.

For your info, TikTok currently has 170 million American users, so it has a lot of influence in the US. This is one of the reasons why the US is keen to have more control over the platform.
