Trump does a 180-turn after a White House meeting with Intel CEO

Just days after publicly demanding the immediate resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, President Donald Trump dramatically reversed course, praising Tan’s “amazing story” following a face-to-face meeting at the White House. The previously embattled executive is now set to collaborate with key Cabinet officials and may have laid the groundwork for renewed political and industry support.

What Changed the Conversation?

The shift began with an Oval Office visit by Tan, hosted alongside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Trump described the meeting as “very interesting” and said Tan’s rise was “an amazing story,” signalling a thaw in their relationship.

Intel confirmed that it looks forward to ongoing discussions with the administration and emphasised its commitment to U.S. tech and manufacturing leadership.

Market Cheers the Reprieve

Shares of Intel responded immediately to the sudden shift, jumping over 2% in after-hours trading, and a further 3–4% in pre-market sessions — signalling investor optimism that Tan’s leadership has cleared a significant roadblock, at least politically.

What’s Next for Tan—and Intel?

Tan now faces the task of translating this political reset into tangible progress. He’s looking to keep Intel’s manufacturing anchored in the U.S. while aligning with federal expectations, especially as scrutiny over his past ties to Chinese tech companies and the recent CHIPS Act funding remains intense.

This is not the first time Trump has changed his mind on the go after meeting an important figure. As the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover too quickly. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
