Twitter adds a button to toggle closed captions for videos on its iOS and Android app

Twitter today announced that a new button has been added on its Android and iOS app to toggle closed captions (cc) for its video player. The cc toggle can be found in the top-right corner of videos on Twitter should the video itself has captions available for it.

Previously, subtitles on Twitter videos will only appear on mobile devices if you turned on other settings on the device. For example, cc will only appear if you turned them on in your smartphone’s accessibility settings or if you’re watching a Twitter video with sound turned off. Now, turning on cc is made all the more simple with the toggle.

As shared by Twitter on its Twitter Support account, the company tested the feature on iOS back in April. Now, both Android and iOS users have the feature readily available, which would be very handy in situations where you can't really turn on your sound volume up.
