Twitter is now testing Birdwatch to prevent fake news and misinformation online

Today, Vice President of Twitter Keith Coleman has announced a new feature for the social platform called Birdwatch. As the title suggests, it's a new way for the Twitter community to report and prevent misinformation news spread around online. Here's how it works on Twitter.

From the teaser video above on the official Birdwatch Twitter account, you can report by clicking on the three dots on the top right and a "Contribute to Birdwatch" option is at the bottom. After that, it will bring you to a new page on why you think the tweet post may be misleading people with several options. Furthermore, you can also choose if the tweet may cause little or a lot of harm online.

Birdwatchers (I think that's what the community is called, lol) can also provide further explanation to back up their report. This will allow other users who come across the misinformed news and understand what's wrong with it. Other users can also vote on whether the report is useful and agreeable or not.

At the moment, Birdwatch is now in the first phase of pilot testing. The testing seems to be exclusive for the USA too so we will have to wait and see how it turns out. As a testing feature, it's being kept separated from Twitter until it's official. But what do you think of this feature?
