For all the Twitter users who basically will stop for a picture when you scroll through your feed, here's a piece of rather good news for you, actually two news. Twitter is bringing two new features to the users including posting a high-quality 16MP picture and live pictures on iOS.
If you are one of those people who like to zoom in pictures on Twitter for whatever reason, you can now see more detail without squinting your eyes relentlessly. Back then, users were only allowed to post up 4MP pictures on Twitter. Now, Twitter has stepped up the game by allowing users to post 16MP pictures on the social media platform.
Starting today, Twitter will preserve JPEGs as they are encoded for upload on Twitter for Web. (Caveat, cannot have EXIF orientation)

For example: the attached photo is actually a guetzli encoded JPEG at 97% quality with no chroma subsampling.https://t.co/1u37vTopkY pic.twitter.com/Eyq67nfM0E
However, there is a limitation that only pictures shot in a square aspect ratio can preserve their 16MP resolution. Pictures shot with other ratios will remain as 8MP. No matter 8MP or 16MP, we are still glad that Twitter now allows us to view higher quality pictures, which makes it easier when you want to zoom in to look at someone’s face or other things.
Another feature is only for iOS users, you can now upload live photos directly on Twitter as GIF format pictures. With this function being available, it is said that photos can be more lively like those moving pictures that we saw in Harry Potter’s movies.

The feature is pretty easy to use on the Twitter iOS app. Just select live photos when drafting a tweet, and tap on a GIF button located at the lower-left corner then you’re done. Posting live photos can make Twitter more interesting when it comes to interactions. We hope the feature will come to the other OS platforms as well instead of just iOS.
