Today, U Mobile has taken another big step in expanding Malaysia’s 5G footprint, announcing the arrival of its ULTRA5G experience at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur (MO). With support from digital infrastructure partner EDOTCO, the hotel has become the first in Malaysia to offer complete 5G coverage across every floor, setting a new benchmark for hospitality and digital innovation.

5G Connectivity Across the Entire Hotel

Guests on U Mobile plans can now enjoy uninterrupted ultra-fast connectivity not just in rooms, but also in ballrooms, meeting spaces, event venues, and public areas. This has been made possible through comprehensive in-building coverage (IBC) solutions, ensuring seamless performance throughout the property.

With ULTRA5G, the hotel can also support advanced applications like 4K conference livestreaming, ultra-immersive virtual meetings, and other smart hotel innovations powered by low-latency, high-capacity 5G technology.

A New Era for Hospitality and MICE

Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile, highlighted the milestone:

“This latest initiative will make 5G smart hotel applications within Mandarin Oriental possible, from boosting guest experience to powering 4K livestreaming for conferences. This is just the start of our journey with EDOTCO, and together we aim to bring ULTRA5G to more key locations nationwide, including airports, hospitals, and convention centres.”

EDOTCO’s Director of Malaysia Business, Gayan Koralage, added:

“Our neutral-host model accelerates deployment and eliminates redundancy, ensuring building owners, operators, and providers can connect seamlessly. This rollout with U Mobile shows how infrastructure can unlock better digital experiences while driving economic growth.”

Strengthening KLCC’s Position as a Premier Destination

KLCC Property Holdings Berhad (KLCCP), which owns Mandarin Oriental, also welcomed the upgrade. CEO Datuk Sr. Mohd Salem Kailany said the move is key to future-proofing guest experience:

“5G at Mandarin Oriental strengthens Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s reputation as a premier hub for hospitality, MICE, and tourism while contributing to Malaysia’s digital transformation.”

Part of a Bigger 5G Vision

This rollout follows U Mobile’s earlier announcement at Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, where EDOTCO was named a preferred IBC partner. The telco has set its sights on achieving 80% coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026, signalling aggressive expansion to ensure Malaysians have access to reliable, next-gen 5G experiences.
