U Mobile has stepped up its 5G rollout in East Malaysia by expanding the availability of its ULTRA5G experience across Sabah. The latest expansion brings wider coverage to key areas including Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Beaufort and Kudat, strengthening the telco’s presence in both urban and surrounding regions.

In addition to outdoor coverage, ULTRA5G indoor connectivity is now live at prominent locations such as Imago Mall and Kota Kinabalu International Airport. U Mobile says more indoor sites are planned as part of its ongoing network build-out in the state.

CARA U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest highlights next-generation 5G capabilities

To mark the wider availability of ULTRA5G in Sabah, U Mobile is hosting a large-scale consumer festival known as CARA U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest. The three-day event runs from 6 to 8 February 2026 at Jetty DBKK and combines live entertainment, lifestyle activities and technology showcases.

Festival-goers can expect performances by local and international artistes, alongside family-friendly attractions such as a Karaoke Bus and ULTRA Pickleball. A key focus of the event is hands-on demonstrations that allow visitors to experience the benefits of ULTRA5G firsthand, including higher capacity and lower latency enabled by the telco’s next-generation 5G network.

U Mobile is also showcasing AI-powered applications at the event, with dedicated booths offering trials of services such as AI Wardrobe and AI Grooming to highlight how 5G and AI can work together in everyday use cases.

Enhanced connectivity for consumers in high-traffic areas

With the expanded ULTRA5G network, U Mobile believes Sabahans will benefit from a noticeable improvement in mobile connectivity. Consumers can expect lower latency experiences that translate into clearer video calls and smoother live streaming, even in busy or congested locations.

The telco positions ULTRA5G as a key enabler for consistent, high-quality mobile experiences, particularly in areas with heavy data usage where network performance can often be strained.

Unlocking digitalisation opportunities for enterprises

Beyond consumer use, U Mobile sees significant potential for ULTRA5G in enterprise and public sector environments. These include enterprise-grade services such as IoT deployments, AI-driven solutions and cybersecurity capabilities designed to support smarter building operations, improved customer experiences and more efficient workflows. U Mobile says it is focused on tailoring its 5G offerings to meet the varied needs of businesses, positioning connectivity as part of a broader enterprise digital strategy.

Supporting Sabah’s digital economy through local collaboration

According to U Mobile Chief Technology Officer Woon Ooi Yuen, the continued expansion of the company’s next-generation 5G network reflects its commitment to supporting Sabah’s digital transformation and growing digital economy.

He noted that the increased availability of ULTRA5G not only enhances customer experience but also enables the adoption of 5G-Advanced and AI applications, alongside enterprise-grade and cybersecurity services. As a Malaysian company, U Mobile is also working closely with local partners such as Celcom Timur Sabah for fibre backhaul, contributing to job creation, skills development and local business growth as part of its rollout efforts.

New full-service retail store opens in Kota Kinabalu

The outlet offers personalised assistance, access to the latest devices and the full range of U Mobile plans, including packages tailored specifically for East Malaysia, such as U Borneo Prepaid, U Borneo Postpaid and U Home 5G Borneo.
