Malaysia's second-biggest 5G operator, U Mobile, is transitioning network infrastructure from DNB to its own U Mobile ULTRA5G network. Since starting this development in July 2025, the telco has successfully expanded its 5G coverage to 85% of populated areas across Malaysia, up from the 82.9% reported just a few months ago.

Apart from providing 5G networks in open areas, U Mobile is now also present with the network offering in 190 buildings throughout Malaysia, including locations such as Berjaya Times Square, with this number also expected to increase to 600 buildings and other indoor infrastructure in the future.

A huge fund to aid the continued expansion of UMobile’s network

Moreover, they announced a syndicated financing of RM4.3 billion from a consortium of local and international financial institutions to support the continued expansion and enhancement of their network, reinforcing their long-term commitment to providing high-quality connectivity across Malaysia. Besides that, Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, said:

“The completion of our transition to the nationwide ULTRA5G network marks a significant milestone for U Mobile. This transition gives us full control over the network and allows us to introduce innovations more quickly. We will also be able to introduce differentiated products and services that meet the ever-changing needs of consumers and businesses no matter where they are.”

Personally, we hope UMobile’s project will go smoothly. After all, a widespread and reliable 5G connection would benefit everyone in Malaysia. Especially in this ever-demanding digital era.
