Today, U Mobile has once again made another strategic partnership, this time with Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), to accelerate the nationwide deployment of its 5G network. It will be a 10-year agreement, valued at RM2.4 billion, and was formalised today at a signing ceremony held at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara.

Under the agreement, TM will serve as U Mobile’s key fibre backhaul partner, providing a suite of infrastructure services. These include fibre-leased lines connecting to U Mobile’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN), data centre services, leasing of TM Edge facilities for Points of Interconnect (POIs), and trunk leased lines for inter-regional connectivity.

Leveraging TM’s fibre network, which spans more than 740,000 kilometres nationwide, U Mobile aims to significantly speed up its 5G rollout. The collaboration is expected to support high-capacity and reliable connectivity for both enterprise and consumer segments.

U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said the partnership would play a critical role in helping the company reach 80% population coverage within the next 12 months. “TM’s wide-reaching infrastructure allows us to accelerate our 5G deployment while ensuring a high-quality, ultra-fast, and dependable network experience,” he said.

TM Group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris highlighted the importance of fibre backhaul in building a resilient 5G ecosystem. “Our collaboration with U Mobile reflects TM’s commitment to delivering future-ready infrastructure that enhances digital connectivity and supports national innovation goals,” he said.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Communications Minister YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and both companies look forward to this partnership as a shared commitment to advance Malaysia’s 5G ambitions. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
