As U Mobile continues to build up its Next-Gen 5G network, the company has formalised a strategic partnership with OCK Telco Infra Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of OCK Group Berhad, Malaysia’s largest telecommunications network solutions provider. The collaboration led to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which positions OCK as one of U Mobile’s preferred partners for 5G In-Building Coverage (IBC) infrastructure.

The Collaboration

The partnership is expected to significantly bolster U Mobile’s Next Gen 5G rollout, particularly in enhancing network performance in high-traffic indoor environments. Plus, the MoU supports U Mobile’s ambition of achieving 80% coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by July 2026.

By leveraging OCK’s extensive experience in telecom infrastructure, the telco aims to accelerate IBC deployment through site-specific solutions. The focus will be on delivering reliable, high-speed indoor 5G connectivity that offers low latency and an optimal user experience.

Laying the Groundwork for Future-Ready Digital Infrastructure

Beyond immediate infrastructure goals, the MoU includes joint exploration of next-generation IBC innovations. The two companies plan to integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), smart city solutions, and autonomous systems into future deployments.

Both companies are also committed to ensuring cost-effective and rapid deployment through commercially competitive terms, reflecting a shared commitment to efficient network expansion.

Leadership Remarks on the Collaboration

Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating:

“U Mobile is pleased to have OCK as one of our preferred IBC infrastructure partners as we ramp up our nationwide 5G deployment.
