U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has inked a five-year wholesale access agreement with Eastel, a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) under Anchor Communications, set to debut in Q1 2026. This landmark partnership marks U Mobile’s first-ever 5G and 4G wholesale deal, paving the way for more collaborative opportunities in Malaysia’s fast-evolving telecommunications sector.
Expanding 5G Access Nationwide
Under the agreement, U Mobile will provide wholesale access to its next-generation 5G infrastructure and award-winning 4G network, covering essential services such as data, voice, and SMS. The collaboration also includes support for IDD, roaming, and mobile number portability, giving Eastel a robust foundation to deliver seamless connectivity once it officially launches.
Kenneth Chang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile, described the partnership as a major step forward for the telco’s wholesale business strategy:
“This latest partnership marks the start of more 5G wholesale agreements to come, especially since our 5G network expansion will reach 80% CoPA by the second half of next year. With our next-generation 5G and award-winning 4G network, we aim to enable more telco players to leverage our infrastructure and expertise. This reflects our commitment to supporting Malaysia’s digital economy through market diversity and healthy competition.”
Eastel to Empower the Gig and Creator Economy
For Eastel, the agreement signifies a strong entry point into Malaysia’s highly competitive mobile market. The MVNO aims to cater to niche, data-intensive communities, including gig workers and digital creators, with flexible and high-performance mobile solutions built on U Mobile’s 5G and 4G backbone.
Aaron Lee, Executive Director of Eastel, said:
“Eastel is honoured to be U Mobile’s first 5G and 4G wholesale partner. This partnership marks a significant milestone as we prepare to launch a new kind of MVNO — one that empowers Malaysia’s Gig and Creator Economy. By leveraging U Mobile’s ultra-fast network, we aim to deliver more tailored and innovative mobile experiences for the community.”
Driving Market Diversity and Innovation
The partnership signals U Mobile’s growing ambition to strengthen Malaysia’s 5G ecosystem through open network collaboration and infrastructure sharing. With Eastel on board, U Mobile is positioning itself as a key enabler of next-gen connectivity services, helping new players enter the market faster while promoting competition and innovation.
Eastel, meanwhile, will leverage U Mobile’s comprehensive 5G infrastructure to roll out targeted services that meet the evolving demands of today’s mobile users — from content creators and small businesses to digital-first consumers — when it officially launches in early 2026.
