The National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) launched two of their new research products at the Festival of Ideas (FOI) 2025, which are ready for commercialisation. That said, what should you know about it?
Using AI to detect water pipe leaks
For your information, the product introduced is the AI Water Pipe Leakage Detector, created by Capt. Assoc. Prof. Syed Nasir Alsagoff (Retired) from the Faculty of Defence Science and Technology (FSTP).
Moreover, this system uses artificial intelligence to detect water pipe leaks with 100% accuracy without the need for an internet connection. It is designed for use in remote areas such as military camps, operational sites and rural areas, making it a strategic technology solution for defence and civilian infrastructure.
Additionally, the second innovation, KINEMOVE by Fitness Benders, is the brainchild of Dr Noor Hamzani Farizan from the Defence Fitness Academy (AKP), a mobile fitness tool with digital training guides and smart movement analysis.
Besides that, this tool not only helps civilian users but is also designed to support the physical training and rehabilitation of defence personnel, in line with UPNM's commitment to advancing military fitness science. The launch of this product thus strengthens UPNM's reputation in the world of innovation.
