It's not uncommon that we tend to see fake ripoff brands based on popular brands and most of them can be found in Asia. With that, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have proudly announced one of their latest raids which seized 2000 counterfeit Apple AirPods from Hong Kong. However, a closer look tells us a different story - those are actually the OnePlus Buds (HAHAHA).
Reading from their official press release a few days ago, the seize was a "success" on 31 August 2020. Troy Miller, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations said that the "counterfeit Apple Airpod Earbuds" were on the way to Nevada at an air cargo facility at the John F. Kennedy International Airport. The statement also continued that if the merchandises were genuine (which they are), the overall Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) would have been $398,000 (~RM1,651,501.00).

Obviously, people have tried to correct the CBP that these are legitly the OnePlus Buds from the brand OnePlus. But the responses they got were "In the US imports are not allowed to infringe on patents or copyrights these are so similar that they can actually argue they are counterfeit". I mean, they do have an argument on that...only if OnePlus is truly a fake brand (which they are not) as they have been selling their smartphones globally since 2014.
Should CBP continues to ignore the tweets about the legitimacy of the OnePlus Buds wireless earbuds, it's going to be really funny when things go down for real. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
