Upcoming Google Photos update will add 3D effect to Memories feature

If you use Google Photos, you should be familiar with its Memories feature. It essentially lets you review the best photos uploaded to your cloud storage, so it feels like you're reliving your 'memories'. Now, Google is adding the new Cinematic photos feature on top of it.

According to the announcement, the Cinematic photos feature helps make your photos more vivid and realistic. With the help of machine learning, Google can find an image's depth and add a 3D effect to it. The result is a photo that can slowly pan in, which is how it gives that realistic 3D effect. Google Photos does this automatically, with the photos appearing under "Recent highlights" on the mobile app.

If you've seen or make Facebook 3D photos, Cinematic photo sort of delivers the same effect. The difference is that it's automated, though you do lose out on the extra panning angles that the Facebook version has. Anyway, Google will also be adding new collage designs and Memories themes to Google Photos.
