A boy ended his life in his own home in India when his parents did not get him the smartphone he wanted for playing PUBG. The ordeal is tragic and should be an eye opener for us all to be more wary to those who are in need of help in terms of mental health.

The 18 year old boy had asked his parents to purchase him a smartphone priced at Rs. 37000 (~RM2108) which they refused as they had set a budget of Rs. 20000 (~RM1139) for him. Upset, he took his life in his own home in Kurla.

While it is easy for us to blame the game as it has been in the spotlight among parents and teachers for all the wrong reasons such as addiction, cyberbullying and excessive rage, we should take this opportunity to open our eyes to those around us who silently suffering from mental illness. It could be a possibility that the boy had been using the game as a means of coping from stress and depression.
