Besides having a larger display, one of the most stand out features of the Apple Watch Series 7 has got to be its fast charging capabilities compared to its predecessors. However, it seems that the latest watchOS update has unwantedly levelled the playing field, as many users are reporting that the feature is now broken on the Apple Watch Series 7.

The update, watchOS 8.5 was released by Apple last week. It came with several features to the Apple Watch, including 37 new emojis, ability to authorise Apple TV purchases subscriptions, updates to irregular rhythm notifications and more.

After several days of using the update however, some users began to realise that their Series 7 is charging slower than usual. They then took to Apple’s support forums and the r/AppleWatch subreddit to complain regarding the matter and called for it to be resolved.

As reported by 9to5Mac, some users thought that the issue was only affecting those that are using the Belkin BoostCharge Pro. It then proved to not be the case after users reported of facing the same issue with Apple’s own USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable.

In fact, one user even reported that third party chargers won’t even work with their Series 7 after the update. The user then hoped for Apple to fix the issue immediately, given the desolate landscape that third party fast charging for the device is currently.

As of the time of writing, Apple has yet to release any statement addressing the matter. Given the problem only arising after the watchOS 8.5 update, it may just be a software issue rather than a hardware one. Hence, a software update should be able to fix it.
