Valve has announced Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), the replacement for the popular first-person shooter title Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO). Available in a limited test starting today, CS2 is expected to be officially released as early as June 2023.

On its official website, CS2 was described as the most significant “technical leap forward in Counter-Strike’s history”, with gamers promised years of updates and new features. Moreover, CS2 was also touted as an “overhaul” to every system, piece of content and “every part of the C-S experience”.

The game itself will be based on Valve’s Source 2 engine and includes some welcomed updates to the game’s mechanics. These include improved smoke grenades and the move to “sub-tick” gameplay.
