Vietnam will implement new regulations in the Advertising Act, including for online advertising activities, which will take effect on February 15, 2026. So, what should you know about it?
Should Malaysia do this too?
For your information, the regulation sets a maximum waiting time of 5 seconds for video ads and moving image sequences. This means that online platforms in Vietnam are not allowed to force viewers to wait more than 5 seconds before a video ad can be closed or skipped.
Additionally, the regulation stipulates that there is no waiting time required to close static image ads. The feature or icon to close the ad must ensure that it can be closed with a single interaction, without using fake icons that are difficult to distinguish or identify.
Moreover, this move is seen as an effort to protect online user experience, particularly regarding pop-up ads and long videos. In Malaysia, such regulations can be used as a guideline to be applied to online platforms, especially when some providers are now seen to be showing video ads that are too long, and some are even impossible to skip.
