In the future, robots are going to be around to help with a lot of things, even 'manning' charging stations. Volkswagen has been working on such a robot, which was first unveiled as a concept last year. However, it now has an actual working prototype that was revealed recently.
According to the press release, this mobile charging robot will enable fully autonomous charging of vehicles in designated locations. This can be an underground car park, shopping mall car park, and fuel stations with no charging facilities. To do this, the robot is attached to a trailer that functions as an energy storage unit.
Setting up dedicated charging stations or a dedicated one for your home can be expensive, so this robot can be considered an alternative for those who want to avoid such costly measures. Besides the robot, Volkswagen is also working on developing a flexible quick-charging station that's expected to be available in 2021. Most likely, the European countries will be getting it first.
Electric vehicles aren't very relevant in Malaysia yet, so it'll be a long time before we see this robot here. But having said that, would you like to see these robots helping to charge your car at the car park while you're busy with your chores or shopping?
