Waze has recently introduced the Waze Beacon which is a battery-operated electronic that transmits real-time traffic data to devices in locations where GPS signals could not be received such as a tunnel. The aforementioned beacons are not exclusive to Waze as they can be used by any application that requires location data.
Based on a statement by Paultan.com, Malaysia is the first country in Southeast Asia to have the Waze Beacon installed to help drivers as they navigate while in tunnels by using Bluetooth connection. As of now, the pilot programme will be conducted in Tun Razak Exchange for now and it will be available to more areas in the future.
