Out of all the features on Waze, Google Assistant has been kind of wonky, at least on the iOS version. Today, a Waze Community Manager shared an update regarding it, saying the company has decided to take it down.

According to Waze (and perhaps several Waze iOS users), Google Assistant in Waze on iOS has not been working properly for more than a year. With this, the company has decided to phase out the voice assistant for Waze on iOS starting tomorrow onwards, instead of trying to patch this up. As implied, it seems that there is always a new bug whenever a patch goes live.

With Google Assistant phasing out of Waze on iOS, the company also announced that it will be replaced with an enhanced voice interaction solution in the near future. On the other hand, Google Assistant is still functioning well on Waze on Android. So no changes are needed for the latter.
