If you’re the kind of people who wishes your neck pillow to have a sound speaker, then your wish has been granted by Sony (minus the comfort). This Sony Immersive Wearable Speaker is made as an alternative to your soundbar or home theater system and it is shaped like a neck pillow.
The wearable speaker was first launched in Japan in 2017. Until now, Sony has somehow brought the product into the US market. The speaker is being sold at the price of 300 USD (~RM1252.53), but we don’t think the product is worth the price tag. Let’s find out why!

First, this speaker doesn’t support the basic Bluetooth connectivity (what!). You can only connect it with your TV with a transmitter that comes in the box. The transmitter is needed to be plugged into a power outlet and hooked up to a TV through an optical cable or audio cable. Actually, we already have this kind of neck pillow-shaped speaker in our market like the Bose SoundWear and it offers Bluetooth options.
For the audio output, the wearable speaker is said to sound alright but it is not that excellent. One extra feature it has is emitting vibrations which users are not hating it for some reasons. There are three settings for the vibration which are weak, middle, and strong. We think you can put the vibration to use when you need a good massage? If you want to turn it off, weak is basically the only option.

The Sony Immersive Wearable Speaker is also said to be the speaker which would not bother someone who is in the other room if you’re having a TV series binging moment late into the night. Compared to the normal speakers for TV, it does sound quieter especially it only sits around your neck. However, if there are people around you, of course, they can still hear the sound.
Last but not least, this is also not an option for families who watch TV together as it is created for personal use. Unless you buy the wearable speaker for each of your family members, but we would still suggest you get a normal speaker or soundbar for that price tag.
Considering its design and functions, this speaker is rather niche for the market. We are not quite sure that this will be a better alternative for those who are looking for ways to enhance sound quality for TVs.
