We may be getting a screenless keychain camera from Canon

Canon is raising funds to help them create a small, screenless camera. The camera can be hung to your belt, bags and etc as it comes with a hook like a keychain. The campaign is named “IVY REC Concept Camera” which you can find on Indiegogo.

The unique selling point of the device is the fact that it is for those who love the outdoors and extreme conditions. It is shockproof and water resistant with an IP67 rating. The camera can be submerged to 1m underwater for 30 minutes so there’s no need to worry too much about splashes, spills and most importantly, the rain. However, if you want to bring the camera diving, you may want to invest in a waterproof case for your device.

Tech specs wise, it comes with a ⅓ inch CMOS sensor for its 13MP camera. For video, it can easily record 1080p at 60fps. In addition, it is also supports Bluetooth and WiFi which enables you to connect to your smartphone via the CanonMini Cam app to transfer and view photos and videos as well as use the smartphone as the camera viewfinder.

As for its design, the device does not include a screen. The only thing you’ll find on it is the square lens and a few function buttons. However, similar to Instax cameras, the upcoming keychain camera comes with a viewfinder which can be found on the top left of the camera. Honestly, the best thing I can think of when it comes to the keychain is to clip it to your dog or cat’s collar and record the world from their points of view.

It is a little unusual that Canon would place this camera as a kickstarter project on Indiegogo but the reason for that is so the company can capture as many customers as possible, especially casual photographers. The price of the device or even its release date has not been announced but if you sign up as an early backer, you’re eligible to a 30% discount when you purchase the device.
