Various speculations about the iPhone 17 "Slim" have been talked about for the past few months, such as an expected thinner design, a single camera and so on. Most recently, a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that the fourth model of the iPhone 17 may be positioned as the "Air" version of the iPhone
For the record, the iPhone lineup has three main options - the standard iPhone, Pro and Pro Max. However, Apple is still looking for a "fourth iPhone model" that can attract users. In 2020, the company tried to do so by launching the iPhone 12 mini but failed.
In addition, Apple then discontinued the mini iPhone model and produced the iPhone 14 Plus, a larger version of the standard iPhone. Just like the mini, the Plus model is also largely a failure. For next year, Gurman said Apple will take a new approach to this fourth model. The company may feature a “Air” version of the iPhone 17, offering a much thinner design that sits between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro.
Moreover, Gurman compared the device to the MacBook Air from 2008, which sits between the regular MacBook and the MacBook Pro. At the very least, he expects the iPhone “Air” to be more popular than the iPhone mini and for the past few years. He also added that this model might just be a step towards better offerings - like offering the power of the Pro model in a smaller design. Even so, he expects that may not happen before 2027.
