If you have been seeing your friends on Facebook talking about Clubhouse, chances are you probably stroll passed it or got curious. The buzz is that you would see exclusive invites and not anyone can simply join the app too. So what is Clubhouse and what does it do? We are here to tell you everything about it.

The basics

Clubhouse seems to be a social app platform available on the Apple App Store only. It's also interesting to know that instead of another typical social messaging app, it uses voice messages to chat or broadcast your message across. Clubhouse was first launched in 2020 by Alpha Exploration Co., it was relatively unknown until Elon Musk (yes, him again) endorsed it.

So put it simply, Clubhouse is sort of like Twitter but you send out voice messages. From our experience, you can either put your audio conversation out to the public or friends-only. There are no pictures, no videos, just profile pics of the users which you can join and listen to whatever they have to say or participate by raising your hand icon, but it's up to the host to permit you to speak.

How do I join the app?

We mentioned earlier than it's not as simple as downloading Clubhouse and signing up, you need to be invited by an existing Clubhouse user, you see. But here's the kicker - a new Clubhouse user can only get two invites and the more he or she uses the app, such as joining a forum of a certain topic, more invites will be given. You can download the app on the iPad although it's not fully optimised and the Android version is in development.

Upon signing up, you only need to fill in your phone number and name. You will get to register your username too if you want. If you send the invitation to a friend, you only need their phone number. By the way, you can even link your Twitter account to Clubhouse so it will use your existing Twitter profile pic instead of having to start over.

Any privacy practises? And what do people talk about there?

According to sources, the developers record none of the voice conversations online. Because once the forum ends, the original poster can just close the room and open another. However, keep in mind that users can still find a way to record voice chats. What comes online, stays online.

At the moment, the Clubhouse user can create any topic and it ranges from tech to religion. You can host a room and have up to 5000 people there listening to you. It's quite an interesting way for people to get into conversations online or discuss a topic, as well as definitely a platform for people who love talking instead of typing. Besides Elon Musk, other notable celebrities like Kevin Hart, Drake, Chris Rock, Ashton Kutcher and many more using the app already.
