According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a username verification feature as an alternative to phone numbers on its web version. The feature aims to improve privacy by reducing the need to use phone numbers in communications. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, this feature was tested on the app version, but has not yet been officially launched. If it is introduced, you should be able to interact and communicate without having to share your phone numbers, instead using a unique username as an identification on the platform.
Moreover, you can check the availability of a username while typing. If the name is still available, a green check mark will appear. Meanwhile, a red warning will be given if the name is already taken. It is emphasised that this feature is still in the testing stage, and there is currently no official launch date much less a Malaysia release date.
