According to rumours, WhatsApp is currently testing Guest Chats for beta users on Android and iOS. Through this feature, users can generate an invitation link to start a conversation with someone who doesn't have a WhatsApp account. So, what should you know about it?
A more convenient way for guest users
For your information, guests just need to open the link via a browser without having to install the app, and they can chat directly with the WhatsApp user. This feature is built with end-to-end encryption (E2EE), where only the participants in the conversation can read the messages sent. However, Guest Chats have some limitations as they are designed specifically for temporary use.
Among other things, guests can't join groups, send media like photos or videos, or make voice or video calls. Instead, they can only send basic text messages, keeping the functionality simple but still safe for temporary communication.
Additionally, Guest Chats will automatically expire after 10 days of inactivity, and users will need to generate a new link if they want to continue the conversation. To maintain full control, WhatsApp also provides the option to block guests, just like blocking regular accounts, so that users can always manage their conversations more securely and organised.
