WhatsApp could launch a "View Once” feature on iOS

WhatsApp has reportedly started testing a new View Once feature for text messages on iOS. As the name suggests, this feature allows messages to be sent and only be viewed once by the recipient before they are automatically deleted. To use it, users simply need to long-press the Send button before selecting the “Send as view once” option.

A viable alternative to the expiring messages

Once enabled, sent messages can only be opened once. Previously, WhatsApp had offered View Once functionality for photos, videos and voice messages. With the addition of text message support, the feature is set to expand to cover more forms of communication within the app.

According to reports, the new functionality will support individual chats as well as group chats. However, it will not be available for channels. For now, the feature is still in the internal testing stage and has not been offered to public beta users.

Interestingly, this feature is different from the previously reported expiring messages feature. While expiring messages allow messages to be deleted after a certain period of time, View Once will make the message disappear once it is opened by the recipient.

Besides that, if this feature is officially introduced, it has the potential to become a new option for users who want to share sensitive information or messages that don't need to be saved in their chat history.

Personally, we feel this is a better alternative than the expiring messages. So, it will be interesting to see how everyone, especially Malaysians, would react to this update. What are your thoughts on the news? Feel free to leave your comments below.
