WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to conduct surveys using Status updates.
This feature, still in development, aims to make it easier for individuals and businesses to gather feedback from their contacts without the need for group chats or direct messages.
While there is no official release date or pricing available for Malaysia, early details suggest this tool could offer a more interactive way to engage users.
WhatsApp explores interactive polling through Status
Currently, WhatsApp supports polls within group and individual chats. The upcoming feature extends this capability to Status updates, enabling users to share a question and collect responses directly through the Status viewer.
This method could allow broader participation, as anyone who can view the Status would be able to submit an answer. Preliminary reports indicate that the survey feature will include predefined answer options, similar to existing in-chat polls.
However, it remains unclear whether results will be visible to the Status poster only or also to respondents, and whether responses will be anonymous.
At the time of writing, the feature is not available in any public beta and appears to be in early testing. Meta has not shared a launch timeline or additional details.
Our thoughts
If rolled out widely, this feature could become a useful tool for users in Malaysia to conduct informal polls, collect event RSVPs, or gather community feedback—all without initiating a chat.
For small businesses, creators, or local communities, it presents a lightweight way to engage followers or customers through a familiar interface.
That said, privacy settings and response visibility will be key to its adoption. Since WhatsApp Status already supports custom visibility, users can control who sees their survey, but it remains to be seen how flexible the response settings will be.
