According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently developing an optional subscription plan that will completely remove ads from the "Updates" tab, which is the section that houses Status and Channels. So, what should you know about it?
It’s only available to the EU and UK regions for now
For your information, users who subscribe will no longer see ads in the tab, including ads that typically appear after browsing several Status updates. However, this subscription plan is expected to only be offered to users in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, similar to what Facebook and Instagram offered to users, this move is believed to be related to regulatory requirements in the region. It allows users to choose whether to continue using the tab with ads or switch to an ad-free experience through a subscription.
For reference, WhatsApp last year announced the display of Ads in Status, which are inserted between other status updates, similar to ads on Instagram Stories. Meanwhile, ads on Promoted Channels will appear when users press the "Explore" button to find new channels.
