If you frequently use WhatsApp, this news might catch your attention. Rumour says the app could release its version of the AirDrop feature. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Meta is reportedly developing a new feature that allows WhatsApp to share files with nearby users. According to WABetaInfo, this tool was found as part of the Meta-owned messaging platform in the 2.24.2.20 beta. This feature should work like AirDrop or Google’s Nearby Share if the rumours are true.

In addition, we do not know how this feature works, but it might use Bluetooth for this aim. It could also retain the end-to-end encryption and display both the sender's and recipient’s usernames. Interestingly, it could keep your phone number hidden too.

Furthermore, we might get a gesture-based gimmick for the feature too. That means you can shake or do anything in similar stature to enable the feature. We have yet to confirm when this feature will be released. As of now, we should wait for further confirmation from WhatsApp.
