Ever since the launch of the dark mode system across the iOS and Android platforms last year, users have been expecting the social apps to have it as well. Today, WhatsApp has finally announced that it will be rolling out an official dark mode for both iOS and Android.

The WhatsApp dark mode is designed with the color palette that is closer to the system default on iPhone and Android. It is designed to minimize eye fatigue while reading in low light environments with the color and other design elements will make sure the important information stands out. Besides, the company also mentioned it hopes to help prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room.

The new dark mode will automatically turn on when you set your system theme to dark on Android 10. For Android 9 Pie and below, you will need to manually enable dark mode from its settings in the app (WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Theme > select Dark). As for Apple devices, the dark mode will only be available on iOS 13 (system theme), those who are not running on iOS 13 will not be getting it.

If you have not received the new dark mode update yet, just be patient as the update takes time to rollout globally. Are you a fan of the dark mode? Let us know at our Facebook page and stay tuned for more news updates on TechNave.com!
