Last week, it was reported that WhatsApp was testing a native WhatsApp app for the Apple Watch. Turns out we didn't have to wait long, as the beta test is over and the Apple Watch version is officially out. Find out how it differs from the mobile app below.
Definite limitations
Yesterday, WhatsApp officially announced a new version of the app for the Apple Watch. Note that the app only works on the Apple Watch Series 4 or later and requires at least watchOS 10, so older devices won't have access to it. Moreover, there are clear limitations to this version of the app. Specifically, you won't get to initiate voice calls using WhatsApp on the Apple Watch.
However, you can receive call notifications, so you'll know when someone phones you on your iPhone. The Apple Watch version also allows you to read and reply to text messages, as well as receive and record voice messages. You can even react to messages with emojis, view images or stickers, and view the full chat history.
Most useful for voice messages?
Would sending text messages to WhatsApp on an Apple Watch be popular? Personally, I don't think so. After all, typing on such a tiny screen isn't going to be easy. Receiving and recording voice messages, however, sounds like it would be useful.
But what do you think, will you be using WhatsApp on your Apple Watch? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
