WhatsApp is testing ‘Expiring Groups’ that would self-destruct after a set date

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature for group chats that would allow users to set an expiration date for the group. Aptly named ‘Expiring Groups’, the feature was introduced on the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.5.0.70 update, meaning that it may end up in the full version of the app soon.

First spotted by WABetaInfo, the feature allows users to set a certain expiration date for their groups. Once the date is reached, they would be prompted to clean up the group chat.

From the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, the feature provides users with three options for the Expiring Groups for the admin, which are one day, one week and a custom date. Moreover, there’s also an option to remove the expiration date should users have a change of heart and don’t want the group chat to self-destruct.

So, will WhatsApp roll out this feature to the full version? Well, we just have to wait until an announcement is made, though features being tested in beta usually do make their way to the full version of the app eventually.
