WhatsApp is reportedly testing new Meta One subscription plans that could give users access to more advanced Meta AI features. According to findings from WABetaInfo, the upcoming plans may include higher AI usage limits, faster responses, and access to more capable AI models. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, one of the higher-tier plans, Meta One Premium, is priced at USD19.99 (~RM80) per month, which is approximately RM85 per month based on current exchange rates.

WhatsApp could expand Meta AI with paid plans

Additionally, the feature was spotted in a recent WhatsApp beta update for Android. While Meta AI is currently available for free within WhatsApp, Meta appears to be exploring subscription options for users who need more advanced AI capabilities. These plans are still under development and are not yet available to beta testers.

Based on information discovered in the beta version, the subscription plans may offer benefits such as higher interaction limits, access to newer AI models, and improved response speeds. Meta is also developing reasoning-focused AI features that could allow users to switch between faster responses and a more advanced "thinking" mode depending on the complexity of their requests.

Meta One branding could bring AI subscriptions under one platform

The development aligns with Meta's broader subscription strategy announced recently. Meta has already introduced Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus subscriptions, while also preparing Meta One as a unified brand for future AI, creator, and business-focused subscription services.

For AI users, Meta is currently testing two subscription tiers:

  • Meta One Plus: USD7.99/month (~RM34/month)
  • Meta One Premium: USD19.99/month (~RM85/month)

These plans are expected to provide additional AI processing capacity, support for more complex requests, deeper reasoning capabilities, and expanded image and video generation features across Meta's ecosystem. Meta AI will continue to offer a free version for casual users.

From our perspective, this move shows that Meta is gradually building a paid AI ecosystem similar to services offered by OpenAI, Google, and other AI providers. While WhatsApp users in Malaysia can continue using Meta AI for free, power users who rely on AI for productivity or content creation may eventually have the option to unlock additional capabilities through a subscription.

For now, Meta has not announced any release dates, pricing details for Malaysia, or official availability for WhatsApp users. Since the feature remains under development, the final features and pricing could change before launch.

What do you think about Meta bringing premium AI subscriptions to WhatsApp? Would you pay around RM34 to RM85 per month for extra Meta AI features? Feel free to leave your comments below.
