It's not uncommon for many people to receive quick news on their WhatsApp group chats nowadays. In fact, during this Movement Control Order period, some of your uncles and aunties got the news faster than the official ones. With this, we were informed that WhatsApp have just introduced a new limit on forwarding messages.
So how many messages can be forwarded now? Answer - 5 messages can only be forwarded to one chat at a time. Asides from battling against false information from spreading around, the WhatsApp team did this to slow down overwhelming information coming at once. This is particularly useful for busy people who don't have time to read everything on their respective WhatsApp group chats.
The WhatsApp team have been evaluating this and gaining feedback from users for 6 months. However, they won't stop there as they will continue to collect comments from this new implementation and will look for new ways of addressing viral content. In addition to that, the team have also set up links to fact-checking organizations on their Coronavirus Information Hub.
