The Meta-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp has now gotten a new feature that is similar to FaceTime where users can share a link to start a call with a single tap. Moreover, the messaging platform will also soon get secure encrypted video calling for up to 32 people.

Shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his official Facebook page, the new call links feature will be rolling out to users beginning this week. As for the secure video call encryption, no rollout date has been given just yet, with Zuckerberg only saying that the feature is currently being tested by WhatsApp.

The call link feature in particular is quite interesting as it is similar to the one introduced by Apple on FaceTime in iOS 15. The introduction of the feature itself was seen as Apple trying to compete with the Zoom app which was ubiquitous during the height of the pandemic.

As for WhatsApp’s upcoming secure video call encryption feature for up to 32 people, it sure is handy for meetings and group discussions. As of right now, users can only make audio calls with a number of users with WhatsApp.
