Popular messaging platform WhatsApp recently released a new native app on Windows that no longer requires users to link their phone to send, receive and sync messages. Available for download on the Microsoft Store, WhatsApp has also shared that the Windows app just ‘graduated’ from beta to a final release on the OS.

With the native app, WhatsApp users on Windows no longer need to download the platform’s web-based desktop app or access the messaging service from their web browsers. Moreover, given it is native to Windows, the overall experience would be smoother and more responsive.

According to WhatsApp's official website, the advantages of the native app include increased reliability and speed, the ability to message and receive notifications even when the users’ phone is offline and a more refined design that’s optimised for the OS. Indeed, the the redesigned native app has a cleaner interface compared to the previous versions of the app, though the overall design looks similar.

Moreover, WhatsApp also announced that a desktop app that’s native is also currently in development for Apple's macOS. For early access, you can download the beta programme of the app for Mac here.
