By now, you should know that you can send Disappearing Messages on WhatsApp. This extra layer of privacy is a way to protect messages from falling into the wrong hands, but sometimes, we would like to keep that occasional voice note.

With that, the WhatsApp team is introducing "Keep in Chat", so that you can safely keep that text you need for later. The team said that if you’ve sent the message, it’s your choice whether others in the chat can keep it for later. The saved Messages on your WhatsApp will be noted with a bookmark icon, which is organized by chat, in the Kept Messages folder.

To make this work, the sender will be notified when someone keeps a message, and the sender will be able to veto the decision. If you’ve decided others can’t keep your message, your decision is final. No one else can keep it and the message will be deleted when the timer expires.

This way you have the final say on how messages you send are protected. The WhatsApp team hopes people enjoy this new update and the flexibility to keep the necessary messages. This will roll out globally over the next few weeks.
