Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is currently testing a new security feature that allows you to block messages from unknown accounts. Spotted on the latest Android beta version of the app, read on to learn more.

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature was part of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.24 update. The option is located in the Advanced submenu of the app’s settings, alongside the ‘Protect IP address in calls’ and ‘Disable link previews’ options.

A closer look at the new feature shows that once it’s turned on, WhatsApp will automatically block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume. This will protect users from unwanted or potentially harmful communications, as well as improve device performance by reducing spam and unwanted messages on the app.

Given that it’s currently in beta, there’s a high chance that the feature will make its way to the full version of WhatsApp soon. Until further info is available, stay tuned to TechNave for more trending tech news.
