Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that would allow users to send a voice note that can only be opened once. Spotted in the latest beta version of the WhatsApp app, read on to find out more about the upcoming feature.
As shared by WABetaInfo, the self-destructing voice note was part of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.8 update. The feature also comes with a new layer of privacy, whereby the voice note can’t be forwarded, saved or exported.
Furthermore, a new view once icon is now available within the chat bar while recording a voice note with a lock. Once selected, the voice note will be sent in view once mode similar to sending photos in this mode.
In fact, once the view once voice note is sent, even the sender themselves can’t listen to the voice note again. Of course, the recipient also can’t listen to the view once voice note again after opening it, as the feature was intended to be.
Like other features in beta, do note there’s no confirmation that this feature would make its way to the full version of the app. However, given how useful the feature is, we’re confident it’d end up to all users in one way or another in the near future.
