Today, WhatsApp has introduced new features in its Updates tab, home to both Status and Channels, to help users discover more content, creators, and businesses more efficiently. Since it's on the business side of things, there is a fee to pay.
Channel Subscriptions
Users can now subscribe to their favourite Channels by paying a monthly fee for access to exclusive content. This gives admins a new way to offer premium updates to engaged followers, and additionally, admins can boost their Channel's visibility within WhatsApp’s directory through Promoted Channels via a paid feature that helps them stand out and grow their audience.
Ads in Status

Moreover, WhatsApp is launching ads in the Status/Updates section, where businesses can reach users and encourage them to start conversations directly via a tap. It might sound annoying to see ads, but all new features are confined to the Updates tab, so private chats remain untouched and fully encrypted.
WhatsApp said any data used for personalisation (e.g., from Status, followed Channels, language, or region) is minimal, and phone numbers are never shared or sold for advertising purposes. So all in all, these updates are aimed at helping creators and businesses grow on WhatsApp.
