Sometimes, we would have prefer to have some conversations in private. For face-to-face conversations, you find somewhere you can chat securely. But what if it's via a text messaging app? Well, WhatsApp considers this a relevant issue and has rolled out Chat Lock.

In WhatsApp's blog post, the company called Chat Lock a feature that protects your private conversations. The feature lets you lock a chat thread out of the inbox and put it in a separate folder that can only be accessed with the right security authentication. That would be your password or a fingerprint scan. Moreover, the feature will hide the contents of that chat from appearing in notifications.

So, where is this locked folder? It's still in the app, of course. Like Archived chats, The folder for locked chats would appear at the top of your list of chat threads. However, you can only access them with a password or fingerprint. Generally, locking your phone is good enough as a security measure. But this extra layer of security might be helpful if you have family members that might use your phone when it's unlocked (like your children).

WhatsApp also confirmed that Chat Lock will have additional options in the future, like locking your linked devices. That's great because, currently, the feature doesn't sound all that important to most people. But what do you think? Is this a feature you'd need?
