WhatsApp users might be able to choose the quality for videos or images downloaded

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows users to choose the quality of automatically downloaded photos and videos. So, what should you know about it?

You can choose between “Standard” and “HD” quality

Just like when uploading, this feature offers two quality options for downloaded media, namely Standard Quality and HD Quality.

Standard Quality will compress the file to reduce its size, making it faster to download and more economical in terms of data and storage usage. HD Quality, on the other hand, retains more visual detail and resolution, but uses more data and storage space.

According to the selected settings, the system will automatically download the appropriate media version.

However, users can still manually access the HD version when needed, as long as it has not been deleted from the server.

This feature is especially useful in group chats that are often filled with HD photos and videos, but not all of them are necessarily open. It also helps users with limited data plans or slow internet connections.

It’s not widely available for now

For now, the quality options for downloading photos and videos are only available to a select few beta testers who have downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android. It is expected to be expanded to more users in the coming weeks.
