
Starting January 1, 2025, the WhatsApp app will no longer be accessible on older Android phones that are more than 10 years old, WhatsApp announced. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, if the phone is running Android Kitkat (Android 4.4) and earlier, then the owner must change phones if they want to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp explained that this action was taken due to technological compatibility factors between devices and applications and also to ensure optimal security and usability ( functionality.
In addition, Android KitKat, which is Android version 4.4, was launched in 2013. That said, these are the devices that will not be able to access WhatsApp starting January 1, 2025:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola : Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
If your phone is not listed but is running Android KitKat (Android 4.4), then it will have the same fate. If you are one of those affected, then make a backup ( backup chat to Google Drive) and switch to a phone that uses the latest Android or at least Android 5.0.
