According to WABetaInfo, the Android beta version 2.24.25.29 update for WhatsApp will add reminders for chat messages. Specifically, it sends notifications for unread messages from selected contacts. These contacts are chosen by an algorithm, which prioritises contacts with the highest interactions. The beta is currently being rolled out to Android users.
Dismissed a notification of unread messages? Well, now you get reminders of those messages!
So, how is that different from a regular notification? Essentially, WhatsApp will send reminders of messages you haven't read, even if you've previously dismissed the notification. Since WhatsApp wants these reminders to be non-intrusive, they won't pop up that frequently. But at least you would get reminders of important messages you might have missed.
