Apple has introduced the iPhone Air, its thinnest iPhone ever, starting at RM4999. With a profile measuring just 5.6 mm, you might wonder: Is the iPhone Air at risk of bending?
Apple’s response to durability
For your information, Apple executives John Ternus and Greg Joswiak directly addressed the question in media interviews. According to them, the iPhone Air exceeds Apple’s internal benchmarks for bend strength. Joswiak even challenged reporters to try bending the phone.
While the device does flex slightly under heavy pressure, it returns to its original shape without lasting damage. The iPhone Air is built with a grade-5 titanium frame for rigidity.
Moreover, the phone introduces Ceramic Shield 2 on both the front and back, offering improved scratch resistance, reduced glare, and stronger protection against cracks compared to earlier iPhone models.
Besides that, Apple says the iPhone Air can handle real-world use without bending issues, but will its ultra-thin design hold up over time in pockets and daily use? That is something that will only be known after extended testing.
