Earlier this year, Microsoft was spotted testing tabs for File Explorer on Windows 11. It turns out that the company has decided to roll out the feature soon, giving us a modernized version of the file managing app.

According to the source, the new feature is already available for Beta Channel Insiders. However, not everyone is getting it yet, as the deployment is done in waves. If nothing comes up, the feature should make an appearance in the 22H2 update, a big update scheduled for October 2022.

Adding a tab system to the File Explorer is a huge plus for most of us. Not only you don't have to open multiple windows, but Microsoft indicates that the band on the left has gotten a redesign as well, offering a tidier and cleaner user experience. It's worth mentioning that this is not the first Windows OS version that Microsoft suggests putting a tab system into the File Explorer. The company had also worked on a similar one for Windows 10 but had later scrapped it.
